Darius The Great – Jacob Abbot, Published 1904

Another useful find.  Yesterday Project Gutenberg released the above as a free e-text in both plain text and html formats:

The html version contains all of the engravings and a couple of smallish maps of the Greek & Persian Empires.  I imagine historian’s views on things have changed in the 104 years since it was written but I sure the basics are sound.

I did some checking and I was amazed to find that this book is still in print and available in a 2003 edition from Amazon!  I suppose you can check it out for free now.

If you’ve come across this book, do let me know what you think of it.  I’ll be dipping into it over the coming months and will post a review later.
