Strange Days Indeed

Living in the UK I never thought I'd write this but today the very unusual combination of high temperature and high humidity meant that when I tried to apply matt varnish to some newly finished figures they dried with a slight satin sheen. Most annoying! Lots of rework required.

I've read numerous blog and forum posts from people in America who've been affected by high humidity and temperatures when using a spray varnish. Given the more moderate climate here in the UK, I never expected this to bother me; especially as I only ever use a "brush on" varnish. However, it's the only thing I can think of that could have caused the problem.

I suppose I should have seen it coming. It's already the hottest UK summer since 2006, today has been one of the hottest of the year so far and the forecast for tonight is for thunderstorms due to the high humidity.

So it looks like I won't be varnishing anything until well in to next week when the humidity is due to drop.

Islamic Persian Shot

Finally I have managed to finish a batlegroup for my Islamic Persian/Moghul project. This time it's eight elements of aquebusiers or musketeers.

The Re-Mystified On Tour :: Stoke Challenge 2013

As you can tell by the picture I achieved a place at this one day, 650 point Field of Glory competition. The trophy is for second place but really I was third: Kevin Johnson did the gentlemanly thing and refused to win his own competition. Well done Kevin for setting such a positive example and a superb job organising the day's events.

Perhaps the competition was most notable for the third round match between myself and Simon Clarke: when Vexillia played Lurkio! More detail later. The results are given below (click on the image for a large version):

Landsknect Halberdiers

This week saw the completion of another mini-project. Not everything was a straightforward as I wished. First off there's the results:

These figures represent the heavy foot with heavy weapons that I needed to add to my Landsknect pike blocks although I only have one pike block painted at the moment.
