Charles the Bold Exhibition - Berne

The Historical Museum of Berne has a new exhibition running until 24 August with a clear Burgundian theme.  I wish I could go.



The exhibition web site is worth a visit for two reasons.  Firstly, it has a clearly laid out and succinct chronology for Charles' life, times and death.  Of course if you want more there's always the Wikipedia entry.  Secondly, there's a small thumbnail at the bottom left of the page showing  the horse armour of Emperor Frederick III , 1477 from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna which doesn't seem to be available on their main armour web site.

There's a range of  related re-enactment events associated with the exhibition from 30 July to 10 August including a jousting tournament and an army camp which look very interesting indeed.   Apparently the jousting is provided by "England’s best tournament riders"!

As I said before: I wish I could go!

The exhibition is being transferred to the  Groeninge Museum, Bruges  from 27th March till 21st July 2009.  I might make this one.  It’s only €9.00!

    Most interesting - I wish I was going too...
    I visited the museum over 25 years ago and I found it really interesting then.

    I too can't get to Berne this year, but the museum advised me that the whole expo will be in Bruges in 2008 - at the same time as the english version of the catalogue is publised. Time to seek out that eurostar deal I think?

    Bruges and the Eurostar sounds like a plan to me. However, I bet I end up missing it because of work.

    Oops, sorry that should be 2009 for the Bruges leg of the exhibition.
