The latest addition to my Hellenistic army is a bit of a mystery because I can't find the code anywhere on the Essex web site! They are undoubtedly from Essex and, with the larger heads, I suspect they are one of their later sculpts.
Figure review
Once again the figures were well cast with minimal flash. However I
found the heads to be a touch on the large size and the faces a little cruder
than I've come to expect from Essex (see the last image below).
I bought the pack of eight sight unseen, and they turned out to be single pose. Not ideal. Therefore, I've only painted the two units I need. If, later in the year, I can find some different figures I'll replace these, but they'll do for now.
Painting notes
- The darker tunics took me ages as the original red dried glossy no matter how many varnishes I tried. I ended up repainting them. However, I was pleased with the final (almost pink) tone; just right for a sun bleached red.
-
The position of the bow makes painting the faces a little awkward and, as
noted earlier, the faces are quite crude.
Found them! The figures are from MPA21 Macedonian: Cretan Archer. Couldn't see for looking.
