Northern League - 2022 Review

It’s that time again: time to review the state of the Northern League (the wargames competition scene in the North of England). I'm glad to say that this year I managed to participate in both the opening and final rounds.

It's worth noting that 2022 was the first full year of the League post Covid 19.

Observations

• The League now seems to have recovered from both the dip in 2017 (the first year without FOG R) and that in 2021 (the first, and truncated, post-pandemic year).
• The DBMM players once again proved very consistent in their support for the League.  Their numbers haven't changed much since 2018.
• Only 12 teams (6 of 10 DBMM and 6 of 30 ADLG) played in all five rounds.
• On average the DBMM teams played almost 4 rounds (3.80) whilst the ADLG teams averaged just over a round less (2.63).  
• The ADLG tournament featured far more teams than the DBMM tournament (30 vs 10) but the ADLG teams played in fewer rounds.  Nine of 30 ADLG teams played in only one round and a further 9 (including yours truly) played in just two.
