Latest Miniature Wargames Article

My latest article has been printed in this month's Miniature Wargames (Issue 374). It's about the local competition scene in the North of England. Here's a taster:

"Competition wargamers! There's quite a few of these about judging by the number of local, national and international tournaments organised each year.

Now some people love competing others loathe it, but competition wargaming remains an established and vibrant part of our hobby.

What I would like to do in this article is look at one small part of the UK competition scene and draw out some long term trends which I hope will be of general interest but before that I would like to say a little about how and why I started to enter competitions."

To read the rest of the article you will either have to buy the magazine or wait until I put the article online in a couple of months. In the meantime you can read some of my other articles online.

Hmm? i think I will give that a read :-) after many years spent in the 10mm scene just getting back into 15mm gaming and collecting again. Though to start off Im giving DBA 2.2 and 3 to start when it comes out, I believe the Big Battle rules for DBA 3 with 36 elements plays very well.

Found this review elsewhere online:

"There was also a strange - well strange to me - article on Competition gaming - not my thing but worth reading as it exposed the mindset of at least some of the competition crowd - man, these chaps are obcessed [sic] 2 - 3 games in a day "learning the rules" (never have never will) nary a pint in sight long rows of tables like a Bangladeshi sweat shop for wargamers - albeit a friendly one. This lot are games players par excellence - not my thing but nevertheless an interesting if somewhat dry look into a part of wargaming I've avoided since the early 1980s"

I suppose this is what they mean by a mixed review. ;-)
