First Game Since November 2018

On Sunday, 18 July 2021 I travelled from Warrington to the Wirral to play Art de la Guerre (ADLG) with Gareth Jones. This was to be my first game of ADLG since November 2018 and my first game with the new version released earlier this year.

After a hot & sweaty 30 minute drive I arrived at the Wargame Store, Brimstage. It's in a complex of converted farm buildings very close to junction 10 of the M53:

I Used To Be A Wargamer!

There's been something nagging me for quite some time. It's about my hobby. It's so troubling that I've written this post at least three times.

I enjoy painting toy soldiers. To be specific I like painting 15 mm figures for the ancient & medieval periods. It relaxes me and I like to think that, after years of practise and hundreds of figures, I've become proficient.

So what's the problem? It's this: all this painting has to have a purpose. I don't want to be a collector. I'd like to think that the units I've painted will see service on a table (one day). But as this year has gone on, I've become less and less certain this will happen.

Painter's Miscellany #4

I have recently acquired two new painting accessories. The first was a tiny ceramic palette and the second a "helping hand" mainly to help me glue those tricky bits that require three hands .

Ceramic Micro Palette - (£12.99)

This was bought to alleviate a recurrent problem. Five years ago I started using a cheap plastic palette in a takeaway food carton as a "sort of" wet palette.

ADLG: V4 Rulebook Gets The Chop

I no longer own just one rulebook for Art de la Guerre (ADLG) V4. I own two! Strictly speaking I now own two "halves".

Four years ago I decided that ADLG V3 was too heavy to cart around and the binding was never going to survive use in games. I therefore used the services of my local print shop to split the book in two and re-bind with wire spirals.

ADLG V4 is an even bigger book so this morning it received the same treatment. I'm really pleased with my new, slim rule book.
