Here's some new eye candy for you.
At the York show in February, I convinced myself that painting this would be an
interesting, if tangential, addition to my
Islamic Persian
project.
It is a 15 mm model from Donnington and the elephant goes together
well but fitting the howdah to the elephant and the crew in the howdah is fiddly
to say the least.
As you can gather painting free hand complex patterns is not my strongest
technique. As a result the howdah took two attempts. The final attempt was
quicker because I found abstracting really complex patterns produces something
you can paint but also conveys the right impression.
I know this isn't the best photograph but I couldn't resist a shot from the
business end.
The next step is the armoured Timurid elephant that I bought at the same
time. I must be nuts.

Lovely piece, striking and very effective patterns, nice one.
Very nice looking, one for the reference folder definitely. Got my first armored Mongol cavalry at the WMMS show at the weekend, all down to your inspiration.
All the best
Airhead
Thanks for the comments guys.
