Sometime ago I stumbled across a free STL file for the "Confused General" from the cover of the De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) rules.
Thanks to fellow Lance & Longbow Society member Will McNally I now have half a dozen 15 mm resin prints. I'm grateful to Will for finding time to print these amongst his busy printing schedule.
The file, created by Euan Smith, came from wargaming3d.com and it's free because it's an advertisement for a French wargaming business in Orléans.
Originally the figure appeared on the cover in black & white but is now resplendent in full colour on the latest version of the rules. For my first attempt at painting the figure I copied the latest colour scheme:
The detail on the print is incredible as the images below shows. Will's raw print is on the left. The one on the right comes from the wargaming3d.com page. There were a few clean up issues on some prints but nothing serious; the offending bits just seemed to pop off.
Whilst painting it I was struck by how easy it was to paint the fingers (always a good sign) and how clean the undercuts are. For example, the scroll is always clearly separated from the body of the figure and easy enough to paint.
The remaining five prints will be painted as gifts. So if you receive an unexpected parcel from me you know what it is.

Very nice. I have a 28mm version by a now defunct company called Bend Sinister, but I'm feeling a strong urge to get this one for an alternative general figure for my Marians.
It never occured to me before that they changed the colouring - on the 2.2 cover the helmet crest is purple.
Purple! I hadn't spotted that. I suppose it wouldn't stand out against the purple background of version 3.0.
Figure has painted up nicely, I've got a 20mm version that will see paint sometime.
Being able to scale things, up or down a touch, must be one of the best benefits of a resin printer. Thanks again for the figures.
