When I looked at the statistics for this blog, I noticed that my 2018 ADLG survey had experienced a recent spike in popularity.
This set me thinking. It's been almost a year since the release of version 4 of Art de la Guerre (ADLG) and the UK competition circuit has fully re-opened after the Covid-19 pandemic.
So I thought wouldn't it be good to re-run the 2018 survey and see if things had changed and if so to what extent.
Previous surveys
I've a background in consumer research, and in 2009 I ran a survey to find out
what people thought of DBMM. It garnered 128 replies and generated some really interesting results.
In 2018, I ran a similar survey but asked questions about ADLG (V3). This time there were 135 replies, of which 81 were from the UK.
Of course no one took a blind bit of notice of either (until now) but it was fun.
2022 survey
This morning, I spent a quiet half hour checking and re-setting the original
ADLG survey to probe:
- Why you play ADLG and how often.
- What you think about the V4 rule book.
- Your thoughts on playing the game.
- Your overall impressions.
To ensure direct comparison between 2018 & 2022 the questions are almost exactly the same. As before, most questions are required to ensure the resultant data set provides a rounded and balanced picture.
It is intended for those in the UK, but if you're elsewhere and want to join in go ahead. There are only 17 questions.
No personal data is collected as I decided not to ask for an email address, but the survey does ask how old you are and roughly where you are in the UK.
If enough people take the survey, I will analyse the responses and post the results here.
Disclaimer
This is a totally “unofficial” survey. It has nothing whatsoever to do with
the ADLG creative team.

Responses submitted! :)
Thanks Tamsin. Spread the word please. The initial response has been a bit slow. Ideally I'd like 70 plus UK responses to make it comparable to the 2018 survey. Fingers crossed.
Update: Progressing well. I have had 46 UK responses out of a total of 63. Well on the way to the target of 80. Thanks to everyone who's taken the survey.
Update: I now have 75 UK response and 30 international. Nearly there! I will let the survey run for a few more days to see if I can reach 80 plus for the UK.
Thanks to all those who've taken the time to complete the survey and a special thanks to those who've spread the word.
Update: the number of new responses has tailed of and so I will close the survey at 17:00 GMT on Friday, 13 May 2022.
So far I have 77 UK & 34 International responses. This is excellent. Thanks again to all who've taken the time to complete the survey and a special thanks to those who've spread the word.
